In the October 7, 2026, City Creatives series profile by Sophia Cooper for the Alexandria Times, Ahmed Akari discusses his artistic progression.
The feature highlights his journey—from experimenting with a makeshift pinhole camera at age 16 and refining his craft through college, to establishing his current residency at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. It explores his philosophy on perspective, his commitment to capturing candid moments, and his dedication to leaving a lasting legacy through his art.
On Saturday, October 3, Ahmed Akari instructed the Getting Started In Studio Lighting workshop in partnership with the Capital Photography Center at Eaton House.
The session focused on exploring off-camera lighting setups, experimenting with various modifiers, and practicing hands-on strobe controls to help participants build real confidence in a studio environment.
Be sure to keep an eye on the schedule for upcoming workshop dates to catch the next session. You can check out future classes and registration details on the Capital Photography Center website.
Proud to support the City of Alexandria Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS) with a transit advertisement campaign running across the local DASH Bus system!
The campaign features full exterior vinyl bus wraps deployed across 4 buses for a 6-month run, paired with interior car cards carrying similar messaging displayed across even more vehicles in the fleet. This initiative aims to raise awareness and promote the wide range of city resources available to City of Alexandria residents.
Huge thanks to the team at DCHS for the fantastic collaboration on bringing this public awareness campaign to life on the road.
